’tis the season

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Clare or myself (or in this case, both of us) having a cold. It would make sense if it was a cliche-ridden “winter wonderland” type Christmas, but we’re resplendent today in our 27 degree southern hemisphere festive joy here today, and having a cold just means you’re sweating and sneezing.

Thankfully I believe I’ve done all the singing I needed to do this year, as I’m a little hoarse this morning. The T3E Christmas bonus song is in the can and about to go off to Curtis for mixinating, and I (belatedly) put down a vocal for another fellow last weekend. Hurrah!

Because I can

I’m sitting in a comfy chair in the Hobart State Library, writing this entry on my brand spanking new iPhone. There’s not really any compelling need to do it this way - I’ll be back in front of a “real” computer in about half an hour, and I don’t have anything particularly pressing to divulge - but I’m still riding that wave of novelty-factor that Apple products provide so effectively.
We had a t3e get together on the weekend, and pit down some drum tracks for a little song wer’e planning to have ready by Christmas. Felt good to be working on something that people are actually going to hear.
Actually, I think I’ll pick this up later, as I’m getting a sore index finger from typing…

Gigantic Bill!

Holy frijole.

I really haven’t been a fan of Telstra, and now that Optus are expanding their 3G coverage in Tasmania I’ve been sorely tempted to switch back, and upgrade my handset in the process . The main thing that’s been stopping me is that I can’t get out of my Telstra contract without paying a hefty early termination fee.

But I’ve just done a look back over the last few months of my mobile bills, and I’ve gone about $40 over my plan on a regular basis. And that’s being careful. So I could have put my Telstra phone in a drawer, started a brand new Optus plan on top, and had the same out of pocket expenses with more call time available.

Of course I could also just make less phone calls…

Reliability

Toyota Corollas are generally pretty good, so goes the conventional knowledge.

Except when they spit the dummy over 200 km from home and you need to get your long-suffering dad to come and collect them on his car trailer, then pay for a hire car to get home because Dad’s truck is only a 2-seater.

We weren’t going to have anything to drink that night.

Then we changed our mind :)

Sometimes life IS fair

I have had coversations with Sam Merlo, Crikey-drummer extraordinaire, about the way that a lot of the world’s problems can be boiled down essentially to people being thoughtless, and not considering (or caring about) the effects that their actions have on those around them. Sadly, Karma doesn’t always deliver the retribution we might hope for.

Which is why, if it is genuine, this video is absolutely priceless :)

The simple things in life…

I just had possibly the best sandwich of my life.

Flat white hamburger roll, sliced chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, and Nando’s perinaise sauce.

Absolutely non-exciting on paper, I realise.

But my word it was tasty. Just exactly what I felt like.

Of course now it’s well before mid-day and I’ve just eaten my lunch.

Dammit.
