Thorough Evaluation

Okay – a brief housekeeping note first. Don’t be alarmed if the site’s layout and look vascillates a little over the next day or two. I’m still experimenting with various wordpress templates, and I may end up with some fairly random graphics until I customise them. For example, currently there’s a rather fetching (albeit stark looking) 3D rendered lounge room up there in the header, which doesn’t really sum up the feel of the site.

Okay.

I turned up at the gym yesterday, expecting to get all sweaty.

Not the case.

I actually wound up spending more time in an office than out on the floor – filling out a questionnaire, getting measured and weighed, having my blood pressure taken (in the normal range, but marginally high) and doing a stretch test (do not ask how I went).

Actually pretty encouraging. In my previous gym attempts, I’ve basically just been given a card and then left to my own devices. That probably works for some people, but when it comes to exercies I pretty much need a regimen to stick to, and that’s what they’re working out for me. So I’m back again Tuesday for another consult where they’ll figure out exactly what sort of torture to put me through on a thrice-weekly basis to transition me from fatness to fitness in the most effective way possible.

In other news, it’s studio rebuild day tomorrow! My little spare-room office/studio will be thoroughly gutted, reorganised, and rebuilt bigger, faster, stronger. I ordered a nice (read “cheap”) 8RU rack frame from ebay on Tuesday, and it arrived today to my delight. So my audio interface, pre-amp module, lovely DBX compressor, power amplifier and (still to be acquired) patchbay will have somewhere to live. Plus I’m going to try to remove the little “hutch” thing on top of the desk, generally clean out a lot of the ancillary crap that’s accumulated, and I’ve got a couple of new things to put on the walls to make it all seem a bit more inviting.

I’m going to try to get it all done in the one day too, because I have some songs I need to look at on Sunday. A T3E demo which is all a bit mysterious at the moment, and another tune for an online collaboration. It’s all on!

Here we go…

So I just joined a gym. Again.

This one is close to where I’m working at the moment, has a nice vibe (not chock full-o beefcakes), and they did me a great deal on the joining fee. Seven day cooling off period too, so if I have an attack of the can’t-be-arsed bug I can backpedal out of there.

But I don’t want to do that. I don’t know what it is, but it seems that increasing numbers of people who I deal with are going to the gym or otherwise getting fit/losing weight. Clare’s always been that way inclined, Half of T3E have been going for a while now, and looking very nice if I may say so lads… (not in a gay way, just in a “hey man I wanted to say that you’re looking okay” way) and I’m seeing people from work out jogging and what-not. It’s enough to make a fellow go out and do something stupid.

Like join a gym :)

Change

I’ve returned from my rather excellent honeymoon with my rather excellent wife (which followed an equally excellent wedding ceremony and reception with the same excellent wife) with renewed enthusiasm to get various projects up and running. Probably the most pressing of these is to convert my studio from “pre-wedding storage and utility room” into “ergonomic and welcoming audio and musical working environment”. But that’s slightly difficult to achieve between bouts of work during the day at the cartoon job. Tweaking the website, on the other hand, is not too difficult in that context.

So I’ve cleaned up the design (although still madly swapping themes like a mofo), moved my little stick figure from the header to the sidebar, and decided to consolidate all the various facets of my audio & musical life into the one place. Ultimately I’m NOT a media production company, or a commercial facility – I’m a musician and sound type person with a project studio and a background in broadcast. Anyone who calls or emails is going to figure that out soon enough, and I think it pays to have my web-identity broadly congruous with my actual one.

Of course I’ll have to actually do that, which will entail a bit of typing and collating.

Which I haven’t done yet.

So I guess I’d better get on with that :)
